Plaid Skirt and Swallows

I am working for the weekend, as the old Loverboy song goes...work, gym, blog, dinner, TV, reading, sleep. I don't know how people with kids do it! They must have super powers.

Anyway, today's outfit features both a new-to-me and first wear top, and a skirt that didn't get worn during the 12 months of last year's capsule wardrobes.
The blazer is a classic cut and colour. I wore it 3 times in September 2012's capsule (recap here) and even though that was my least satisfying capsule of the challenge, it was one of my favourite pieces of all 30 items. Rock on, brown blazer, rock on.

The top is a little red wide-strapped sweater top that I thrifted here in January for $9.50 at the WIN boutique. It's by Jones New York.
It was freezing cold and pouring rain this morning so I wore a full vintage slip under this whole outfit. I love slips for smoothing everything out. But by the time the end of the day rolled around, it was sunny and ferociously windy! I roasted walking home, so the top and slip are now in the wash.

The skirt is a thick wool, brown with a red plaid, and is lined to the knee in bright red satin. It's by Tulle and I got it free for trade-in on consignment. It was new when I bought it (still had the tags on). I adore the two kick pleats in the back. This is a classic "wiggle" skirt, since you can't take big strides in it at all.
I wasn't sure about it until I wore it again, but I really love the cut and fit of it - this length is one I really like. I'm going to keep it and wear it more often.

Here's how I've worn it before:

  • January 2012, with orange and some ruby shoes (replaced with a pair of Fluevog flats)
  • December 2012, with my crane sweater for decorating the office Christmas tree
  • November 2011, with an overload of matchy, although I do really like how olive goes with it

I guess I was wearing it a fair bit before the capsule started!

The stuff:
These shoes were the perfect colour for that skirt. This is the second wear of them (last seen here with my blue dress and floral cardigan for "My Forbidden Dress Week!"

I got a lot of "oohs" and "aahs" today over the necklace.
It's quite a show-stopper. The thin bracelet was a gift from my mom and dad in the 80s; the necklace was a gift from Mom last October for my birthday.

Do you have any jewelry gifts from your parents that you still wear?

Jacket (Tahari Arthur S. Levine, thrifted), top (Jones New York, thrifted), skirt (Tulle, consignment), shoes (Ralph Lauren, thrifted), necklace (gift from Mom), chain bracelet (Club Monaco), eelskin and gold bracelet (fake Gucci, vintage 80s, gift from Mom and Dad), wood ring (consignment), spinner ring (Twang & Pearl), earrings (Plum).
